Using ShiftKey: Understanding your payment options

Our payment process isn’t complicated, but it may be different than what you’re used to. This guide to getting your payments while using the ShiftKey platform will help you choose the invoicing and payment options that are right for you.

The two steps to getting your payments: confirming shift length and submitting invoices

Before ShiftKey can process the payment for a shift you’ve completed, you must 1) confirm check in and out at each facility for each shift, and 2) invoice the facility for the shift. You can do both easily via our app with Location Services and Signature.

The differences between Location Services and Signature

What is Location Services?

Once you check in with Location Services, the app uses your mobile device’s location data during your shift to validate your invoice.

How Location Services works: Location Services uses location data from your mobile device to verify your location during your shift, which can speed up the invoice resolution time.

Important note: For Location Services to work, you must share your location with the ShiftKey app. You must also keep your phone on and the ShiftKey app running in the background during your entire shift. (If you force close the app, Location Services will not work.)

What is Signature?

Signature is another option for supporting your invoice. To use Signature, you must have a facility staff member sign via the ShiftKey app on your mobile device twice during each shift: once when you arrive and once more before you leave.

How Signature works: The facility staff member’s signature verifies that the shift details included on your invoice are accurate. ShiftKey then automatically submits the signed invoice on your behalf to the facility for review. Once the invoice is approved, ShiftKey will process your payment.

How to receive payments via the ShiftKey platform

We offer three convenient options for receiving your payments processed through the ShiftKey platform: ShiftKey Wallet, Direct-to-Debit and direct deposit.

The differences between ShiftKey Wallet, Direct-to-Debit and direct deposit

Here’s a summary of the differences: With ShiftKey Wallet, you will be paid moments after your shift has been approved by the facility.* With Direct-to-Debit, you link your payments to an existing debit card. With direct deposit, you will be paid for facility-confirmed shifts to your bank account once per week.

About ShiftKey Wallet

ShiftKey Wallet, powered by Branch, is a digital business bank account and debit card and FDIC-insured by Evolve Bank & Trust(1).

It offers many ways to access the money you earn via the ShiftKey platform with secure, instant payments (2) and no minimum balances, credit checks or monthly account fees.

With ShiftKey Wallet, you can:

  1. Make payments using your Mastercard debit card and connect your digital card directly to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  2. Link to your favorite apps, like Venmo and PayPal.
  3. Quickly transfer money to another bank account or debit card (3).
  4. Easily withdraw cash at any of the 55,000+ ATMs in the Allpoint Network (4).
  5. And more, including cash-back rewards for everyday purchases, spending insights and upcoming bill alerts.

About Direct-to-Debit

Direct-to-Debit, powered by Branch, allows you to get paid when and where you want by easily linking instant payments to your preferred existing debit card for added convenience (5).

About direct deposit

To set up direct deposit, you need to link your bank account to your ShiftKey profile, which enables us to deposit your earnings directly into your bank account.

ShiftKey’s direct deposit schedule

With direct deposit, you receive payment for completed shifts on Tuesdays. Shifts completed on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be paid the following Tuesday. If shifts worked on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are approved by facilities by 1 p.m. Central Time the following Monday, you’ll see those earnings the next day — otherwise, those payments will be made in your next direct deposit.

There are two exceptions:

  1. Your first direct deposit can take up to 24 hours to process.
  2. Your direct deposit may be delayed during bank holidays.

ShiftKey empowers you to choose the payment and invoicing options that work best for you

We designed ShiftKey to empower you to work on your terms, and that includes how you get paid. Choose the payment option that’s best for you today, and know that should your preferences change, you can update them quickly via the app.

If you still have questions, visit our payments FAQ or contact support by selecting the green bubble at the bottom the right of your screen.

5. Timing of payments directly to an external debit card may vary based on invoice approvals and are subject to a 2% fee of the total payment ($2.99 minimum fee).
